HORSHAM STONE ROOFING SLATES

Horsham roofing slates are the most famous product of Horsham Stone. From Roman times the stone has been used in a wide range of buildings, typically churches, manor houses, cottages, farm buildings and public buildings. The roofing slates have become part of the cultural and historical landscape of  South East England.

We can produce a wide range of roofing slates in the traditional way using the natural cleavage in the

rock to create thin slates of varying size and thickness.

Medieval stone roofers were known as “stone-healers”. Slates were originally laid on a mixture of

moss or lime cement and held on  using nails made of animal bone. We are able to match

individual slates to blend in with the existing slates. Slates can be ordered to any size. All slates are dressed and finished by hand.
